About This Coffee

We named this most delightful medium roast seasonal espresso 'Derek' as the antidote to the 'hip' in the speciality coffee world. Derek is not just any blend; it is a carefully crafted fusion of three fully washed coffees - Ethiopian, El Salvadorian and Brazilian. With the varietals Heirloom, Bourbon, Mundo Novo and Catuaí, each coffee brings a unique flavour profile to the blend, resulting in a beautifully balanced espresso that truly stands out.

What sets Derek apart is its pleasant acidity and a full-bodied texture, this espresso tantalises the taste buds with a symphony of flavours. Derek is a true embodiment of coffee craftsmanship, experts concluded as they presented the Great Taste Award 2024 for Derek.

The judges commented: “This is well-roasted with [..] a pleasant nutty aroma. On tasting, there are great fruity notes initially, then green grape and apple skins, which are bright and sharp on the palate. There is a great length of flavour that persists on the palate and while powerful, is sufficiently crafted to bring together all its credentials to a delicious mouth-filling crescendo of flavour. There is chocolate in the middle, rich and and succulent, and then the finish is elegant and memorable. We also tried it with milk, where it was equally delicious and enjoyed by us all.”

Roasting Derek

To create Derek, we source high-quality beans from Ethiopia, capturing their vibrant and fruity notes. We then add chocolate and almonds with our Brazilian beans, adding depth and richness to the espresso's taste. Finally, we incorporate biscuity vanilla from El Salvador, infusing a subtle sweetness that perfectly complements the other flavours.
